Sanctioned Events

Some competitions run under the official banner of the game's publisher — a world championship, a store championship series, a publisher-run league. On Tabletop League that status is a first-class property of the competition, called its event tier, and it comes with a public badge, a discovery filter, and an opt-in way for players to share their registration with the publisher.

Event tiers

The badge appears on the competition's detail page, on its cards in listings and the featured rail, and in the historical results table — the official status stays visible after the event ends. On a game's competitions hub, a Sanctioned filter toggle appears (once the game has at least one sanctioned event) so players can browse only official and sanctioned events.

Who can set an event tier

Sanctioning is granted, not self-declared. The tier can only be set for a competition when:

  • Your organization is registered as owned by the game's publisher (publishers are companies on the platform — an organization belongs to one), and
  • that publisher is registered for the competition's game system.

Publisher accounts and their organization links are set up by the Tabletop League team — if you run organized play for a publisher and want your organization connected, contact us.

Currently a publisher's organization can sanction its own competitions. Marking events run by other organizations (for example, an independent store running your format) as sanctioned isn't available yet.

Setting the tier

  1. Open the competition and go to Manage → Admin Tools.
  2. In the Event Tier card, choose Community, Sanctioned, or Official — the card explains each option as you select it.
  3. Click Save Tier.

The card only appears when your organization has sanctioning authority for this competition's game — most organizers will never see it, which is the point.

Sharing registrations with the publisher

When a player registers for a sanctioned or official event, the registration dialog shows an optional, unticked checkbox:

Share my registration with Publisher for this sanctioned event (optional).

  • Leaving it unticked changes nothing — registration works exactly the same.
  • Ticking it records the player's consent for that publisher as a company, so the publisher's other sanctioned events won't ask again.
  • Players can review and revoke their grants at any time under Settings → Profile → Data Sharing with Publishers (see Your Profile).

Consent is stored per player and per publisher. There's no bulk export of participant contact details — the platform never shares a player's information with a publisher unless that player explicitly opted in.

Pairing with rulesets and templates

Sanctioned events usually come with a prescribed format and rules:

  • Pin a hosted ruleset version so every registrant must acknowledge the exact rules the event is played under.
  • Publish a competition template so other organizers can reproduce the official structure in a couple of clicks.
