Competition Templates
Running the same format over and over — a weekly league, a recurring tournament series — shouldn't mean rebuilding the stages, scoring, draft rules, and character pool from scratch every time. A template saves that entire structure once, so you (or anyone in your organization) can spin up a new competition from it in a couple of clicks.
What a template remembers
A template captures a competition's full setup — everything except the parts that are specific to one event:
| Saved in the template | Never saved | | --------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------- | | Stages, formats, scoring, and advancement rules | Participants and registrations | | Draft configuration (pick/ban structure, timers) | The competition's name, slug, and dates | | The character/fighter pool (either an explicit list or "all of them") | Organization-specific infrastructure (Discord, fees) | | The pinned rules document, if one is attached | |
Editing or deleting a template never changes competitions that were already created from it — a template only affects what happens the next time someone applies it.
Save a competition as a template
- Open the competition you want to reuse, then go to Manage → Settings.
- Scroll to the Templates section and click Save as template.
- Give it a name and (optionally) a description.
- Choose visibility:
- Private — only your organization can use it.
- Public — any organization can apply it to their own competitions.
- Optionally check off any prescriptive locks — sections (structure, scoring, entity pool, draft config, ruleset) you consider fixed for this format. These are recorded for future enforcement features but don't block anything today.
- Click Save template.
Your organization's saved templates live at Templates (linked from your organization's page) — from there you can review, edit, or delete them at any time.
Start a new competition from a template
There are two places to apply a template:
From the create-competition page — choose the From a template path (alongside Quick start and Custom setup), pick your organization and game, select a template from your library or the public library, name the new competition, and submit. The competition is created and the template is applied in one step.
From an existing (empty) competition — if you already created a bare competition and haven't added any stages yet, open Manage → Stages. Next to the recommended-setup card, choose Start from a template and pick one. This only works before any stages or match structure exist — once a competition has stages, applying a template is no longer offered (it would risk clobbering what's already there).
Either way, the template's stages, scoring, draft configuration, and entity pool are applied immediately, and any pinned ruleset comes along with it.
Editing a template
Open Templates, find the one you want to change, and click the pencil icon to:
- Rename it, edit its description, or change visibility.
- Adjust its prescriptive locks or which ruleset version it points to.
- Re-snapshot it from a different (or updated) reference competition — this replaces the saved stages/scoring/draft config/pool with a fresh copy from that competition, while keeping the template's name, description, and locks untouched.
